On a quiet estate in the Haut Bocage of the Vendée, L’Hermitage offers a small-scale, personal setting for horses. The property sits in Saint-Mesmin, a short drive from Pouzauges and Cerizay and about twenty minutes from Puy du Fou — close enough for a summer stay, far enough for peace.
The facilities
Boarding is organized around a handful of well-kept units rather than a large commercial yard. Horses live close to the house, in a park-and-paddock landscape of a little over four hectares.
Covered barn with units. A large barn shelters individual units for horses, with extra rooms on site for tack, feed and daily care. Stabling under cover is available when the weather or the horse’s routine calls for it.
Outdoor boxes. Outside boxes give horses air, light, and a view of the grounds. They suit horses that do well with more time in the open while remaining close to the yard.
Training carrière. A riding carrière on the estate is available for schooling, flatwork and daily exercise. Use is arranged with the estate according to the formula you choose.
How boarding works
L’Hermitage is not a large riding school. Places are limited and formulas are tailored: covered unit, outdoor box, or a combination that follows the season. Hay, bedding, turnout and use of the carrière are discussed case by case so the arrangement fits both the horse and the length of stay.
Please inquire for current options, availability and terms. Nothing is published as a fixed tariff; each stay is agreed in advance.
Come for the summer — with your horses
Owners who spend the summer in the Vendée — or who wish to combine a holiday near Puy du Fou with time in the saddle — may bring their horses for a seasonal stay. Summer boarding can be arranged for a few weeks or for the whole season, subject to space in the barn and outdoor boxes.
This is especially suited to riders who want their own horse on site rather than hiring a school mount: morning work in the carrière, quiet afternoons in the bocage, and the horse close at hand.
A word on the setting
The estate is a nineteenth-century manor and park, not a busy centre. The atmosphere is residential and calm. That is the point: a handful of horses, known individually, in a place where people also live and receive guests.
Inquire
